Last night The Rachel Zoe Project reminded me of how much I love jewelry and that I really need to organize my collection. I don’t have thousands of pieces like dear Rachel but I anticipate that I will one day, so I might as well get Virgo organized before it is too late. Oh, I am a Virgo – won’t be too hard!

Yesterday I received a box in the mail with the much anticipated House of Harlow Aztec skinny bangle. Another black and gold bracelet to add to my ever growing stack. Here are a few of my favorites.

Chain MAIL

July 31, 2009

Welcome back to Chain Mail, where I share with you the jewelry I am loving at the moment.  I love traveling so you may find it fitting that I just adore this gold Globe Necklace ($74) designed by Pretty Little Thing jewelry.  Even better is that portion of every sale of this necklace goes to The Wilderness Society.

On to the cuff. Fallon, of course.  They have never done me wrong!  I just love these 3 new designs and they seem to have introduced a color I’ve never seen before.  ROSE GOLD! Dies.  These are called the Small Square Stud Bangle ($150) and if you like heavy metals around your wrist, these are perfect.

I loathe it when people ask “are you a shoe or bag person?”  Not just because the question has been asked 1 zillion times, but because the questioner always fails to throw jewelry into that cliched ultimatum.  My answer would be jewelry in case you were asking.

These are two necklaces that I acquired these past two weeks.  One is vintage and from Reno, the other from Forever 21.  I’ll let you guess which is which.  Upon spotting them I was whisked away to Dries Van Noten land and there was no turning back.  They reminded me of that amazing gold cluster necklace I recently saw on the runway that turned my knees into butter.  Nowhere near identical but definitely in the same family.

I promised lots of people that I’d start posting some more of my style on Fashion Intel.  Maybe it will help you get better acquainted with who I am?  You’ll definitely be seeing lots of

1  jewelry 2 black 3 gold 4 s+m shoes 5 vintage

You won’t be seeing the following

1 80s fashion 2 “it items” 3 frowns 4 bad model poses 5 cliches/platitudes

Thanks for reading.  Have a lovely weekend.

The WOODS pt. 2

July 14, 2009

I couldn’t go on vacation without hitting the local thrift stores.  I found an amazing astrology necklace [ sorry it is blurry] and an amethyst piece.  While I was in Virginia City I picked up these copper and gold dream catchers which take me back to my Girl Scout days.  Who else made their own dream catchers?  I couldn’t be happier with the treasures I found while on vacation.  Thrifting out of state has always been a win for me.  Don’t even get me started on my $7 Louis Vuitton military jacket from Vegas.

I finally found myself a long black clutch.  It is true perfection.  Too bad I didn’t have $400 lying around to pick up that amazing YSL at a Nevada outlet to add to my collection. Sigh.  If you love history, ol’timey candy, and the gold/silver rush like myself, make sure to swing by Virginia City when you’re in the area.

I welcome you to the first installment of “chain mail” – Fashion Intel’s must have jewelry for the week.  Though I cannot certainly buy everything I post, it is my desire to drool over the best baubles I spot on my favorite webstores and share them with you.

Maybe you love exactly what I love?  Gold. Abrasive. Gaudy. Heavy metals.

June 24, 2009

If you have read this blog before, you know how much I love jewelry, especially if it is gold or black or better yet, a combination of the two.  Thank you CREATIVE CONTRAST for adding 3 new “must have” pieces to my long list of jewelry desires.  The first amazing octopus ring I saw was at Barneys and then it appeared on Sea of Shoes and I died!  Thankfully Kenneth Jay Lane designed one I can afford and $600 less than the aforementioned.  I cannot forget to mention one of my favorites Alexis Bittar and since I lost my favorite/only AB ring I have been in the market for a new one.  Did someone say bangle? Yes, please

1. Kenneth Jay Lane Gold and Pave Crystals Octopus Ring ($135)
2. Alexis Bittar Large Smoky Quartz Baguette Ring in Gold ($219)
CC Skye Black Gold Soho Enamel Bangle Bracelet ($119)

Picked up this bracelet over the weekend and absolutely love it.  As soon as I saw it hanging on the display I ran over and said “I’ll take that!”  Even more fun is the noise it constantly makes when I’m moving around; you always know when I am coming around the corner.  Typing is a bit hard, but I’ll make the sacrifice for something so amazing.

June 17, 2009

I need this bracelet ASAP.  Saw it today on Refinery 29 and gasped in awe.  Where can I get it?  Better yet, when will YOU buy it for me?

I dissected the pages of Amica and have come up with a solid answer.  Thank goodness I can read Italian [so-so]: Collana Anatmoica d’oro giallo , argento e smalto, Delfina Delettrez.  That’s right, Delfina of Fendi fame is responsible for the skeletal bracelet I am dying over.  Pun intended.  Her website is not functional but try the link anyways.

Home Sweet JULIA

May 14, 2009

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and I might have been separated at birth.  No, we are not twins in physicality but rather we share nearly identical taste.

I was so excited when The Pipeline posted some photos of Julia at home, courtesy of The Selby.  One of my favorite things is to peek inside fascinating people’s lives.  Seeing how some of the most stylish people live is totally engrossing.  I was not disappointed with the series of photos uncovering Julia’s NYC apartment.  In fact, these images have me convinced we’d be the best of pals!  She owns the gold Pamela Love “Talon Cuff” I’ve wanted forever, she owns the Balenciaga sandals that I couldn’t afford to buy 2 years ago, and she owns a ton of skin products just like myself.  Also, we both wear white furs on our white beads.  I’m just saying…

P.S. If you’re interested in buying me a graduation gift, I will glady accept the Gold Talon Cuff.  Purchase here.

Love her necklace + style. She was not shy to mention it was from F21. Ordered it! Update: Duh, it is the girl who blogs That’s Chic

Loomstate’s “The Birds”

Aussenhaut picked us up and we were off to Unique L.A. We had fun looking around, making jokes and chatting it up, but we didn’t really see too much that blew us away.  The most popular space was this charm booth that we both bought necklaces at.  Phuong found a super cute fish and I picked up a mini-California and evil eye.  Love them!  The girls were going bat shit for these tiny necklaces.

We hit up one of my favorite thrift shops when we were done but only had 15 mins to shop as they were closing.  I scored 2 amazing black blazers in that short time!  As we were driving home Phuong and I got to talking about Loomstate for Target.  It inspired me to visit the 2 Pasadena Targets and I bought this bird tank top.  Looks great with my AA black pencil skirt.  I am now thinking I should buy that t-shirt dress.  I love you Rogan Gregory.

Black + gold is my favorite color combination.  If you looked at my rack of clothes, you would see waves of black, gold, gray, and camel.  Here are my lastest additions to the collection as seen on me!

Must Have Miss Van

March 4, 2009

You know that feeling you get when you see something you must have and it gnaws at you every time you think of it?  That is the feeling I get with Miss Van’s “Wood Pin” collection.  See the entire collection here.

Made in Alaska

January 9, 2009

This is one of the most amazing pieces of vintage jewelry I have ever acquired.  I had mentioned this brooch earlier this week when describing my adventures in San Francisco.  It is made of a hand-carved piece of wood and what I am guessing is fox fur.  On the back, there is an carved emblem which represents the indigenous Alaskan people who created this masterpiece.

The craftsmanship is nothing short of impressive and I wish we could develop more fair-trade organizations that could  support indigenous communities who made  beautiful authentic jewelry as I was so lucky to come across.

Win the Gold

October 27, 2008

It is no secret to those that know me that I absolutely love jewelry, especially if it is gaudy gold.  Think Rachel Zoe.  One of my favorite designers is Alexis Bittar, who not only has some of the best crafted lucite but has a fascinating history of collecting and selling vintage jewelry as a young man.  That’s right, Alexis is a man.

I was excited to hear that Alexis Bittar has released jewelry under the title “From the Archive” which encompasses  many of his most stand out pieces over the past few years.  My favorite piece are the earrings pictured above which have been re-released in a white.  If you are a true collector check out the rest over at

What’s your SIGN?

October 23, 2008

Necklace: Maya Brenner

Astrology was the theme that ruled my day yesterday.  Since coming back from the desert, where I visited The Integratron and stocked up on some witchy materials at the local Yucca Valley new age store, I haven’t stopped thinking about how much meditation, yoga and astrology calms my life.

There is something amazing about California that few places can even touch – the high desert and the mysteries it holds.  Not to mention the great vintage and hotels!  All my friends have an affinity for the desert and for the magic that takes place in the heat and darkness.  Coming to mind is definitely Stefani and Sarah, who I could talk with all day about rocks and feathers! Speaking of Stefani, I love how she always posts her horoscope on her blog.  I might do the same, and encourage you to read your own. [try astrology zone]

Speaking of Virgos…I know Rachel Zoe annoys tons of you out there, but I find her charming.  I can also identify with her stomach pain, which I just got over, because I learned as Virgos that is where we hold all our stress – the intestines!  I am still trying to figure out though how she is a triple Virgo. [see Zoe astrology info here] Her dates don’t match up.

from Freewill Astrology / Virgo: When the planet Uranus comes into play, as it is now, it’s a good time to initiate experiments that will expedite the arrival of future blessings. Pushing beyond comforting habits, you thrive by going in quest of bracing truths, unfashionable beauty, and wild justice. The symbolic nature of Saturn is different. It invites you to creatively limit and discipline yourself so that fate isn’t forced to limit and discipline you in unpleasant ways. It so happens, Virgo, that Uranus and Saturn are now poised in opposition to each other. Will they work at cross-purposes, spawning a sticky mess? Or is there a way for you to get them to work together? More than you imagine, you have the power to affect how they interact in your personal sphere.

P.S. I am truly a LEO/VIRGO sign.  I am on the cusp, August 23.  I am the best/worst of both signs.
P.S.S. What is your sign & how does it influence your style?

In the MAIL: My Pounding Heart, Crangi

July 7, 2008

Philip Crangi + his anvil = my true love.

I have shown some love for jeweler-du-jour Philip Crangi in the past here on Fashion INTEL, and my heart melted knowing that I would be thousands of miles away from his in-store appearance at Barneys New York (Madison Avenue) this week. To all my NYC fashionistas and jewelry aficionados, please stop by 7.09 from 6-8pm and tell dear Phil how handsome I think he is!

Me aside, simply stop by to have your monogram personally stamped on a bangle by Crangi himself. Read more about this special event over on Simon Doonan’s Barneys Babble.
