Today is the last day of Michel Berandi’s installation at the Geffen Contemporary at Moca.  It only had a run date of three days but thanks to a tip from Diabolina who attended the opening, I might be able to make tonight.   The museum closes at 8pm on Thursdays, so truly there is no excuse not to make it.   If you also get a chance to go, please tell them that Fashion Intel sent you!

Micheal Berandi is pretty cool.  Playing Sunn – who I’ve had the privilege to see live – on his website made him an instant hit in my book.  I know we’ve seen him around downtown L.A. and mentioned here and there, but by no means did I know he was making fashion magic 2 streets down from my former apartment.

Aren’t these the most amazing shoes?

Do you enjoy long, depressing and violent films? Me too, especially when Charlotte Gainsbourg is the star. Lars von Trier has reeled me in again with Antichrist, a film about … “A grieving couple who retreats to their cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.”

His films always have the most amazing cinematography. 3 – 2 – 1 seconds until I mention the word ethereal. Did I mention this film has a (spoiler alert) scene where Charlotte mutilates Willam Dafoe’s genitals. Did I say too much? Stylish films are always a delight and even if this one is bad, it will undoubtedly look beautiful.

One of my favorite groups ever is returning to Los Angeles. I welcome back The Fiery Furnaces! Please join me at the El Rey Theater November 21, 2009 to see them live. If you haven’t listened to their music before, do yourself a favor and pick up their album Gallowsbird’s Bark. Though I’ve fallen quite out of the music scene there is no reason for me to miss one of the most amazing duos alive today. And hey, Eleanor is so unbelievably cool that she’ll make you barf yourself. For reals.

P.S. You might have seen Eleanor is some Miu Miu ads before. Just saying.

Off to VEGAS

September 16, 2009

I’m off on a mini-vacation to Las Vegas, hooray! Pictured are some treats from one of my favorite bakeries, Bouchon. The restaurant is pretty amazing and I look forward to my favorite frisee aux lardons. I’ll be tanning buy the pool, eating some delicious food and thrifting like never before. I hope I find treasures like never before! I once scored a $14 Louis Vuitton jacket in Vegas.

I’ve got my Bourdain recommendations for drinks and my singles for Cheetahs. Now I just need to pack and it is 2:45 in the morning.

Kids? Yes, because my cousin is the model on the left.  Gorgeous?  Absolutely.  I was browsing through the new Cookie Magazine – what can I say, I love kid’s magazines – and I squealed with excitement when I saw my cousin Louis modeling in this “Style Council” spread.  When I lived in New York this young man was one of my house mates.  I lived with his mother who is my cousin and I always knew she had a gifted son.  He was so artistic, creative and free; I’m not surprised to see his gorgeous face in a magazine.  See all the photos here.

I just had to share this because I was so proud …. and he is so cute!

my sign: Virgo, Pisces Rising, on the cusp of Leo

If you read Fashion Intel regularly, then you know how much I love astrology.  I read my daily horoscopes, have had my chart done numerous times and have read countless books on the subject.

Last week I attended the opening of Chrissie Miller’s (of Sophmore) pop-up shop for Scorpio Rising, her collaboration with Urban Outfitters. [photos here]  What made the night for me was talking to her mother, who is the uber famous astrologer Susan Miller and who I’ve been a devoted reader of.

I am so excited that Susan has created these charming and cosmic horoscopes for the SOPHOMORE x UO collaboration, Scorpio Rising, currently at Space 15 Twenty’s Pop-Up Shop. Read your’s here.

When you spot an outfit you might want to buy, you quickly check its details. A beautiful snap or button, the evenness of a stitch, the feel and drape of the fabric–your eagle eye takes it all in. You know that nothing can elevate a look faster than the sum of the beautiful details, as well as making sure it has proper fit. We’re with you, dear Virgo, and we wish everyone appreciated all that we do as much as you. The right fit that looks tailor made is the secret of chic women worldwide–and besides, you know a good fit will always makes you look slimmer and trimmer.

For those who have read Fashion Intel you know how much I love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.  I equally adore their clothing lines The Row and Elizabeth and James.  As much as I thrift and hit up my favorite boutiques, I also enjoy shopping online and being inspired by how much great fashion I can find on the web.  One of my favorite online shops is Chick Downtown and we’ve partnered up for the very first Fashion Intel giveaway!  Needless to say I am excited to see which one of you wins the amazing Elizabeth and James Grey Deconstructed Tee! [top left, retails $90]

I suggest you check out some of the other designers on Chick Downtown, like my favorites Alexis Bittar, Balmain, and House of Harlow.  They’ve also got some bohemian scarves from Sir Alistair Rai.    For those of you who love twitter as much as I do, stay up-to-date with Chick Downtown’s twitter page and follow them on Facebook.  You’re following me too, right?

I’m getting over a 24-hour stomach flu and the only thing that is making me feel better is the thought of owning this jacket.  I was at the Grove this weekend to see 500 Days of Summer with my honey and we stopped by Barneys Co-Op to check out what new Phillip Lim they had.  DIE!  I must have this jacket. I had seen it online but images don’t do it justice.  It is perfect in person.

Who has the money to buy me this? Please.

The WOODS pt.1

Smoked meats anyone?
Wearing American Apparel floppy hat, Ray Bans, vintage silk dress, Delicate Raymond necklace

This gold butterfly knife almost came home with me, until I found of they are illegal to carry in California.
Wearing Alexander Wang tank, AA floppy hat and skirt.

Yosemite, Convict Lake, the Marina.

Whole Foods Reno had a granola bar. JEALOUS!

Wearing AA tank, skirt, floppy hat and vintage Hermes scarf

I have almost recovered from our trip to the woods.  My family, boyfriend and I ventured to the Sierras this past week and here are some snap shots from Lake Tahoe, Reno and Yosemite.  We all had a blast and most importantly we had the chance to relax among some beautiful scenery.  Highlight – we saw two black bears while in Lake Tahoe.

Even with my excursion into the woods, there was thought into my wardrobe.  I pulled out my Stella McCartney luggage and packed my most woodsy black ensembles.  I wanted to be comfortable climbing rocks, skipping, hiking and bike riding so of course I brought plenty of my American Apparel soft cottons.  I wore my Jeffrey Campbell Oxford sandals most of the time and never took off my American Apparel floppy hat.  I’m very cautious about sun damage!  I couldn’t go without my silks, so I threw in a long vintage dress and my Barneys’ ruffled sleeve short one.  And how can I forget my shorts and Alexander Wang tee?  Perfect for picnicking by a lake in Yosemite.

I thrifted some amazing jewelry while I was there and a Balmain button-down.  Finally I found an amazing black vintage clutch and some black wide leg trousers.  Finally! Finally!   AND don’t even get me started on bottled sodas and ol’timey candy.  I’ve got plenty of that too. To be continued…

I’m off for a few days to the Sierras and Lake Tahoe.  I’ll take lots of photos and will be back with you on Friday.  Have a greet week!

Picked up this bracelet over the weekend and absolutely love it.  As soon as I saw it hanging on the display I ran over and said “I’ll take that!”  Even more fun is the noise it constantly makes when I’m moving around; you always know when I am coming around the corner.  Typing is a bit hard, but I’ll make the sacrifice for something so amazing.

I need this bracelet ASAP.  Saw it today on Refinery 29 and gasped in awe.  Where can I get it?  Better yet, when will YOU buy it for me?

I dissected the pages of Amica and have come up with a solid answer.  Thank goodness I can read Italian [so-so]: Collana Anatmoica d’oro giallo , argento e smalto, Delfina Delettrez.  That’s right, Delfina of Fendi fame is responsible for the skeletal bracelet I am dying over.  Pun intended.  Her website is not functional but try the link anyways.

I first want to thank all my readers and friends for sending me so many well wishes over my graduation weekend.  Oh, the sweet feeling of completing college!  All the hard work was absolutely worth it.

With graduation comes lots of celebrating and if you’ve ever partied with me, you know how much I love everything to be just perfect. VIRGO ALERT.  Friday night my parents took me, my sister and boyfriend to a lovely dinner over at Anisette Brasserie.  French is right at the top of my list and their dishes were delightful.  I wish I could go into every detail but it was so wonderful I’d end up taking up this whole page with words.

Saturday afternoon after my Women’s Studies graduation we headed over to The Viceroy Santa Monica.  If you’ve been reading Fashion Intel for awhile you know how much I love The Viceroy Palm Springs and I was just as impressed with its predecessor’s location.  As you can see, I couldn’t pass up the chance to take photos in the gorgeously designed Kelly Wearstler green bathroom.

It was great to dine outdoors with my family, boyfriend, and besties Stefani and Serge. I’d like to mention how delicious my tomato, mozarella, and micro-basil salad was.  Whist at The Viceroy is amazing – you must go!  My friends S+S also surprised me with a wonderful gift certificate to Willow Spa.  Seriously, I die!

Last but not least, check out that amazing box of Sprinkles graduation cupcakes my mom bought me.  I love you mom!  I’d also like to give a shout out to my lovely sister who flew down from NorCal for my special weekend.  Not only did she shower me with love/gifts but she wrote an awesome speech in my honor.

Concepto y CREACIóN

June 5, 2009

I came across TEAMO through one of my favorite blogs this week, but they only had just a tiny taste of these talented designers hailing from Mexico.  Flipping through their online lookbook was like swimming through a black hole with Martin Margiela by my side.  I am totally inspired.

Rafa y Roberto creen sobre todo en disenar y hacer piezas con amor, piezas lindas y con personalidad individual.

June 4, 2009

It is almost summer and I’ve been thinking I could afford to add a couple of non-black pieces to my clothing rack.  Luckily tonight I came across some stylish white + cream garments and simply couldn’t help myself.  I promise I am being more frugal – I swear!  But these things were too cute to pass up and since I was at Forever 21 I knew it wouldn’t put much of a dent in my new savings plan.  Did I rationalize this purchase too much?  Maybe, but these look even better in person.

What a night.  I took my tour of Equinox gym [I joined], looked at graduation announcements, ate some delicious lavash wraps and bought some clothes.  All after work no less!
