I’ve been gearing up for the re-launch of Fashion Intel and that means I’ve been going through all my old files, inspirations, and lists.  In one of my folders I came across an image with celestial rings that was part of the Prada Fall 09 look book.  That image has been saved since July and just waiting to grace Fashion Intel.  I thought it was cool and beautiful; now is the perfect time to share.  Considering this image was meant for Fall, I wandered over to Prada.com where to my delight the whole look book was available for download.

Here are my favorite of the look book images.  I’m truly inspired for fall fashion.

Model Boyfriend

Menswear is something I usually only glance at, but when my boyfriend’s the model, the runway has my utmost attention.  It is currently fashion week in Los Angeles and my sweetheart was asked to walk in a show for Sahaja Atelier.  After a successful fitting on Friday it was his turn to hit the catwalk Sunday night to a lively crowd.  I wasn’t surprised by his natural talent or beauty, but I couldn’t believe how much I liked the clothes on the runway!  Considering the reputation LA Fashion week has made for itself it was such a breath of fresh air to see clothes I would actually buy for my mister.  I could gush all day long but I’ll spare you just this time.  I did want to mention though how proud I am of my model boyfriend (of 5 years).

These were my favorite looks for the evening.  Cashmere shorts are amazing!  Soft grays and blacks are perfection.  The handsome models don’t hurt either.  I wish I had a better shot of Black Shakespeare from I & I Sound System  because he looked great, but alas he’s only in the group shot.

Stella McCartney is one of my absolute favorite designers.  If you’ve ever felt her clothes you know how soft her fabric is and how beautiful the colors are.  Whether it be her line for Adidas, her luggage for Le Sportsac or her own collection, the charcoals, grays and roses have me dying for more.  I cannot forget to mention her crulety-free ethics which is why so many respect what she designs.  Though I have love for Carine and her goat coat, I have just as much love and respect for someone like Stella who has developed such an amazing brand.  I’ve even forgiven Stella for selling me $500 rafia sandals that fell apart in 3 months.  OK, maybe I am still a little mad.

Fall Fashion for Everyone

November 3, 2008

I’ve been holding onto this image because I was absolutely thrilled seeing it in Domino Magazine.  I haven’t spotted it in any fashion mags, but maybe that is because it is Kenneth Cole and their clothes have never transmitted to my interest.  I do love their ads though and how politically conscious they always aim to be.

No doubt this fall campaign “We All Walk in Different Shoes” is meant to open up a discourse on identity politics. Nina looks great.  What are your thoughts?

Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away!

October 4, 2008

The moment we have all been waiting for has arrived – it is raining in Los Angeles today!   That’s right, forget that is was literally 100 degrees four days ago and embrace the clean air and wet roads outside.  I could not help but celebrate when I opened my blinds this morning and saw gloomy skies and a drizzle.  Hopefully it will pick up and we’ll be facing a down-poor by this evening.

Why does this make me so happy?  Because last year it felt like we had 3 days of rain, and I remember how much more I saw growing up here.

I’ve got my new boots on and a wool cap.  Life couldn’t be better.

COMME des GARÇONS / See it All

October 2, 2008

COMME des GARÇONS for H&M is like the baby we have been anxiously waiting to be born.  Today we got the sonogram, and the Fashion Intel likes some of what we see, particularly the navy and black trench [pictured].  We sided with other bloggers when they threw their arms up about that $350 dress, but truly, when will the opportunity to own these designs at this price tag come again?  That is not an admittance on our part for a CDG shopping spree nor even a promise to buy, but we’re just saying.

The Cut linked a page featuring what is said to be the entire collection.  It looks like it’s missing some items, but we’ll see if anything else pops up.  Our ruling is still out, but I can say be are a bit underwhelmed.  “Hate that” is in the lead over “love that”, but those few wonderfully crafted pieces have us drooling.

Satan? Witches? Lingerie? Yes, Please.

Shot by fashion photographer and good friend Tim Bret Day, the inspiration behind ‘The Season Of The Witch’ is the work by Paul de la Roche; the execution of Lady Gray – mixed with the Massacre of the Innocents by Peter Paul Rubens. The first of the posters are an insert in this months Pop Magazine and GQ (UK).

More Daisy and my top lingerie picks this evening!

Visible but Subservient

September 5, 2008

If you have taken any class within a cultural studies context or have managed to become socially conscious, you probably share with the Fashion Intel the ability to spot a binary from a mile away. No matter the greatness of these clothes nor the beauty of the photography, it is evident to the conscious eye we have a lightly veiled theme of master and servant. Many have demanded visibility for more diverse models, positing participation in editorial spreads rather than acting as scenery, but surely this is not the kind of representation we desired.

New York Magazine is one of my favorites to read and they have by far the best blogs on the internet [see The Cut], but apparently they didn’t get the memo that Asian women have the capability to do more than simply serve white women. I love Fall Fashion spreads, but not when they continue to perpetuate racist images.
