I am back from my sister’s wedding weekend in Laguna Beach and I am zonked.  Being Maid-of-Honor is completely exhausting but totally worth it!  We had a wonderful time and I am ready to get back to all my projects I’ve been working on: 1) re-designing my site 2) serious running 3) my graduation.  But first I must prepare for L.A. Blogger Shop Day at Space 15 Twenty.

Please come shop my closet this weekend!  I’ll be there as well as some other great L.A. girls like Fashion is Poison, Taghrid and That’s Chic.  I’ll post some items this week that so you can get a first peek at the goods.  I’ll be selling some Alex+Chloe, Alexis Bittar, vintage YSL and many other amazing gems!

do-good·er (dgdr) n. – someone devoted to the promotion of human welfare and to social reforms

This week Aussenhaut and I talked a lot about our love for fashion blogs but that we felt there was something just a bit more we’d like to see on our favorite sites.  As much as I love to see everyone’s new shoes, haircuts, thrift store finds, and amazing fashion, I’d also love to hear about how these girls are giving back as their influence on readers is tremendous.  I adore browsing my favorite blogs as I look forward to seeing what these enchanting young ladies are wearing, but I am also dying to hear what they have to say.

This week MTV announced they hired Alexa Chung to host a brand new show to revive their network.  I’ve always loved her style as she manages to look both youthful and sophisticated at the same time.  Upon my research of Miss Chung, I discovered that in May 2008 she was announced as the brand ambassador for Oxfam’s ethical fashion boutique.  She also designed a condom tin for Company magazine to help “convince people to carry condoms.” [read more via wiki]  This made me love her even more!

One organization that is particularly important to me is the Downtown Women’s Center.  I have volunteered there in the past and still remain updated with all their events.  You should check it out if you live in the L.A. area or just want to educate yourself on the population of homeless people who are women.  I am currently inquiring about opportunities with Oxfam as I have a twitter friend who seems to do amazing work with them.

Tell me, what interests you?

Rachel Roy for Macys? According to WWD, Rachel Roy will launch a new line called Rachel Rachel Roy to be sold exclusively at Macy’s.  Her clothes will hit stores this August and if anything is like that black dress with gold studs, you can count me in!  Rachel says of this new endeavor, “This line is the younger sister to the Rachel Roy collection. It has the same designer sensibility but with a younger feeling.”  Oh yeah, they’re going to launch a Facebook page too.

I have always been a fan of Rachel Roy, so much that I was the creator of her wikipedia page.  Ask my workmates, they will confirm it!

Dear Emma…

March 5, 2009

I’d like to congratulate you on your acceptance to YALE.  You are one of the most popular girls on the Fashion Intel and I was absolutely thrilled to see your great news on the E! ticker tonight.  Oh, you were also accepted into Cambridge?  My friend Sergie graduated from that fine establishment and though I know you would succeed with flying colors at good ol’ Cam-b, I think you should move to America and be my best friend.  After all, Blair Waldorf won’t be attending, so a slot has opened up in my group of friends.

xoxo Fashion Intel

P.S.  Intelligentence + Great Style = Fashion Intel’s Favorite Girls

November 22, 2008

You’ve probably never heard me say this & never will again – there is a God!  No Doubt announced they’re going on tour in 2009 and will be working on a new album.  The secret is out of the bag, I love No Doubt.  I also love Gwen Stefani, even though she needs to work on her race politics [read Salon article].

Love this new photo of the band.  Time to remember all my Jr. High No Doubt memories and sigh – ND, here i come!

I Heart Cardigans

September 12, 2008

Word has been spreading about the new “Topshop USA” online store.  That’s right, no more pound conversions and waiting weeks for that Phillip Lim inspired dress!  It is here, they have Kate, and I am already drooling over this comfy heart cardigan.

Apparently we’re not the first to head over to the new site, as there are only two sizes left in the Kate Moss for TopShop grey heart cardigan.  If you are a 6 or 8 and have $95 to spare, head on over and see for yourself.  Don’t you need a boyfriend style cardi for Fall? [clicky]

Alexander Wang Gets Foxy

September 6, 2008

The Fashion Intel will always have a soft spot for Foxy Brown, the rap spitting gem who brought us the greatness of Ill Na Na. I’ve loved her through her toughest times, wished her well when she went deaf, and it makes me happy to read that one of my favorite designers, Alexander Wang, loves her too.

In fact, he adores her so much, she’ll be sitting front row at this show [fashion week] and performing at his after-party. is reporting that Foxy Brown will be “performing a couple classic tracks circa 10:30 p.m., and given that word comes from Mr. Wang himself, it stands to be good.”

See You There / LACMA

This sounds like an event not to be missed. Big thanks to Stefani for the tip.  I will be keeping an eye out for you, dear readers.

Who Els(on) is Going to Say IT?

August 29, 2008

“I remember I came back from a job in Paris and the stylist said to me, ‘have you been eating too many croissants, Karen?'” Elson told the Guardian: “Fashion is obsessed with finding young, beautiful and vulnerable girls, bringing them into the fashion world, praising them, worshipping them but suddenly dropping them like a stone when they hit puberty and grow boobs and hips. It’s so dangerous and can potentially harm the girls mentally and physically.” (Guardian UK)

First Moss, now Elson and we cannot forget the lovely Ali Micheal. What do you think of this sea change?

Wakeup to FREE Makeup

August 27, 2008

I’ve been dying to write this post since I read the great news about getting free beauty products! This fabulous news comes through to Fashion Intel via The Cut, my favorite fashion blog ever. Over there they have explained that:

“Department stores like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Filene’s, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue cheated consumers by making a pact that they’d only sell cosmetic products at the suggested retail price.”

Apparently this is against the law -calling all fashionable lawyers – and we will soon be reaping the benefits of these price fixers. Come 2009, you and I will be hitting the counter for our much deserved free goods. AND I’ll take some samples while I am at it, so don’t be stingy!

Just go to and sign up to be one of the chosen people who receive $25 worth of free makeup.

Zoe Excited

August 11, 2008

We just watched a 21 minute video of The Rachel Zoe Project on fabsugar [via Jezebel] and have now begun counting down the days to its premiere on September 9. Merci beaucoup BRAVO for giving us this show because it has already begun to make our head spin. I can hear the Zoe-isms hitting the streets already! My favorite sound bite from the clip – Let the best dress win.

Rachel Zoe has ruffled some feathers over the past year for sure, but it’s interesting women such as her that keep us not only entertained but motivated as well. We have a penchant for hard workers at the Fashion Intel, and Zoe is among our top favorites. Also, we think she is secretly black as revealed in her family photos in her book Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, and Everything Glamour and diversity in fashion is a must.

Whatever the case, we say – Rachel Zoe, if you are reading this and we know you are, Natalie our editor would like to work for you. She’ll do anything! She lives for fashion and lives in L.A., shoot us an email.

I’ll Have a Cavalli & Coke

August 9, 2008

Thanks to our most loyal reader Stefani Greenwood for sending us this story on Roberto Cavalli for Coca-Cola. She knows how much we love to collect designer limiteds and luxurious bottles. Though I don’t own a piece of Cavalli, I have always admired his barrage of gaudy clothing and look forward to wearing his leopard and gold when I am 50 years old sailing on a yacht with fabulous friends.

Here is our chance to experience Cavalli while we are still young, if only we could get to Italy. They will be available in Fall 2008, with a limited run of 300,000 bottles exclusively distributed in Italy from September through December.

P.S. We’ll only drink Coke if it comes from Mexico/Latin America because they use real sugar cane vs. America’s high fructose corn syrup (hfcs). Does this go for Italy too? What can you tell us?

L.A. Fashion Intel: InStyle Needs an Intern

July 28, 2008

There is no doubt that you read about a New York magazine internship opening at least once a week, and if you are like me, you sigh and ask yourself if moving to the East Coast (again?) is worth it for the career you so desire. BUT then I remember how great our L.A. weather is, and how progressive our politics are, and I know I don’t want to leave the West Coast any time soon.

Thankfully most mags have offices in L.A. and sometimes internship opportunities. Had I not already a full schedule at UCLA this Fall, I would have undoubtedly sent my resume in for this position. Maybe Spring? If you are looking an internship (PAID!) this Fall and are an L.A. fashionista check this out.

In Style Fall ’08 paid intern/ Los Angeles, CA

In Style Magazine’s Los Angeles bureau seeks a fall intern to perform entry-level tasks such as making copies, transcribing interviews, updating Excel and Word documents and researching celebrity contacts for ourupcoming events. Applicants must be available to start August 28 or sooner and work full-time through November. Please DO NOT apply if you cannot make this time commitment. This is a paid internship (minimum wage). Prior experience within the entertainment/public relations industry is preferred.

In the MAIL: Who What Wear?

July 22, 2008

One of our regular readers who goes by the name of Sarah forwarded us an Urban Outfitters email today. She did so because their headline today was Who/What/Wear and she thought to herself – BUT I already got my WhoWhatWearDaily email! She opened it up and surprise, something completely different. By no means does WWWD have the absolute authority on these words, but we thought it was an interesting story nonetheless. Did this happen to any of you?

USA Does it Again!

July 14, 2008

Can you believe we watched Miss Universe for you dear readers? I am glad we did, because we always love a fallen beauty queen. We chose this clip because it even has an added gasp from the network broadcasting it.

Can someone please hire a runway coach?

FASHION Playlist, Courtesy of Fashion INTEL

July 3, 2008

As teens, music was as important to us as fashion. These days we might not be frequenting The Smell, The Troubador, or El Rey as much as we would like, but we still love listening to past favorites and finding new gems.

With that in mind, we present to you Fashion INTEL’S mixed tape. We’re the kind of music snobs that don’t find “mixed tape” appropriate for labeling CDs or mp3s, but in this case we’ll excuse the muxtape, because we had so much fun making it!

Click the tape and see our fashion playlist for the month of JULY. We’d love to listen to yours, so comment with your playlists please!

July 2, 2008

If you are like us, you cannot live without fashion magazines. But we are a blog, and we don’t want to constantly litter our pages with spreads that you probably have already seen. We are much more interested in glossies from abroad or alluring photography; we will leave the glory of Agyness Deyn to the rest of them. With that in mind, we have found your number one source for online magazine fashion scans – FASHIONATION. They’re calling themselves “…an alternative fashion universe where fashionistas, photographers and creatives can get their weekly fix of the best fashion editorial from around world.” So far so good. Do yourself a favor, and subscribe now.

June 25, 2008

One of my loyal readers has sent me this interesting Craigslist post. Calling all VOGUE readers – Snoop is keeping it classy.

I need hot/sexy/beautiful models of all ethnicities for this weekend!! I need women with a Vogue/high fashion magazine look and a XXL/ hip hop magazine look. Must have fit/sexy body who could stop traffic with their looks! The video is classy!!! Be prepared to pose in swimsuits.

Auditions are this week! Please submit head shots and body shots ASAP. I will contact you if interested. Reply to:

[note: Fashion INTELL dares you to show up in your ERES swimsuit and Tom FORD sunnies, now that would be sexy. As for the video, judging on his previous collection, we are not too sure how a VOGUETTE would fare in that scene.]
