May I suggest you dress up as Chloe Sevigny the cat for Halloween?  Even better is to have a friend dress as Terry Richardson to take your photo.  Just some costume suggestions from Fashion Intel. xoxo

October is my favorite month of the year. Why? One word. HALLOWEEN. Everything leads up to this amazing day and you have 30 days to prepare. The weather starts cooling off in L.A., all the stores put out their skull tsotchkes, and black makeup becomes omnipresent. What more could a girl ask for?

This October my boyfriend and I are heading up to Nor Cal to spend Halloween with my sister in San Francisco. I’ll be dressing up as Lady Gaga – nay, I will become Lady Gaga – and Asael still has no idea what obnoxious character he’s going to conjure up.

I wanted to start this month off with a post of some beautiful images in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar. High fashion meets Tim Burton. What you can look forward to for the month of October on Fashion Intel:

Do you enjoy long, depressing and violent films? Me too, especially when Charlotte Gainsbourg is the star. Lars von Trier has reeled me in again with Antichrist, a film about … “A grieving couple who retreats to their cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.”

His films always have the most amazing cinematography. 3 – 2 – 1 seconds until I mention the word ethereal. Did I mention this film has a (spoiler alert) scene where Charlotte mutilates Willam Dafoe’s genitals. Did I say too much? Stylish films are always a delight and even if this one is bad, it will undoubtedly look beautiful.

BOY + Marisa + Polaroids = PERFECTION

August 12, 2009

photos via fashionologie

Don’t you love it when I designers/artists take the things you love and make something even more amazing out of it?  Like BOY by Band of Outsiders + Marisa Tomei + the Chateau Marmont + Polaroid films.

I totally fell for Marisa Tomei when she played Maggie on A Different World – best college show ever.  Then she made Untamed Heart and I knew I’d be a fan for eternity.  Even when she gave my boyfriend googly eyes at Joan’s on Third I was totally thrilled because that meant we had similar taste in men and gourmet food!

Inspired by ANGER

July 15, 2009

Film is a medium that has always inspired my sense of style.  For this reason, I am so excited for this weekend’s screening of The Films of Kenneth Anger at Cinespia.  Even better is that he is going to be there in person.  I was devastated when I missed him at the Hammer’s “Occult Month” so here’s my chance to redeem myself.  Maybe he’ll even induct me into the O.T.O.

These are some of Anger’s images that I found particularly inspiring while digging around for some clips.  I think I might have spotted that sequence coat at Balmain and that cage on Lady Gaga recently.  Maybe I’ll see you there this Sunday?  Here’s some info to further entice you:

Beautiful, erotic, phantasmagoric, the films of Kenneth Anger are a national treasure. Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Marianne Faithfull, Anton Lavey, and a  parade of other 60s luminaries collaborate on this collection of short films . They range from rich mystcal imagery and visual essays of psychedelic color to insider documentary footage of bikers and a glittering love letter to early black and white film. Please join us under the stars for this very special screening with one of our most legendary filmmakers.

Cinespia should have included the word occult somewhere in that description but I’ll let it slide.  Erotic? Satanic? Under the stars in a cemetary? You can count me in!

Images via Winona Forever

Winona Ryder is one of my favorite actresses, ever.  To my delight while at a newsstand in Santa Monica this weekend I saw the latest issue of Elle UK with Winona on the cover.  Since I promised myself I’d cut down on my magazine buying (yeah, right) I passed on picking this one up and just told myself to find some magazine scans when I got home.  To my surprise there were no good images online, but I am still thankful for these water damaged ones from website Winona Forever.

Don’t you miss the intelligent brunette with effortless style!!?!?!?!  Aren’t you ready for a Winona comeback?  I know I sure am.

Belladonna wore this to the AVN awards, up for auction

On Sunday we ventured to Erotica L.A at the Convention Center.  I was excited to see what new booths were at the expo but most importantly I was overjoyed knowing that I’d meet my favorite star Belladonna over at the Evil Angel booth.  OK, I’ve met her before, but since reading her twitter, I was looking forward to discussing our mutual love for Kombucha, homemade food, and all things fashion.  I’d like to say that Belladonna is one of the coolest girls I’ve ever met and I wish we were friends because she has the most amazing positive energy.  Loved her headband.  I wonder if she watches Gossip Girl too.

While I was waiting for Belladonna to arrive at the both, I met a lovely young lady named Bobbi Starr.  My friend Natalie A. and I were immediately struck with how stylish she looked and I asked her if I could snap a photo of her outfit.  After inquiring, she mentioned that the belt was thrifted in London and the top was from Budapest.  Pretty legit.  I was completely unfamiliar with this actress so I did some research and found out that she considers herself a pro-sex feminist.  Also mentioned on her wikipedia page “As of 2008, Starr is a student studying pre-med, with the aim of becoming a gynecologist. Her intent is to work within the adult entertainment industry, where she has identified a lack of female gynecologists.”  Love it.

The industry can thank these women for bringing some great style and personality to a field that is often monolithic.

I don’t want to forget to mention I am well aware of the L.A. Times article discussing the recent news that an adult film star recently tested positive with HIV.  This is a serious issue and if you already haven’t read the news, please do so.

Even with all of the wedding excitement, I still managed to catch Sasha Grey’s big screen debut in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sasha look so lovely.  Her wardrobe included La Perla, Costume National, and lots of black.  Unfortunately her whimsicality had so much working against it, as the film was not particularly good.  I saw the potentiality for an amazing performance but they didn’t ask enough of Sasha Grey.  She was there, willing and able, but the story left so much to be desired and I’m not referring to sex.

Sasha debuted another thing this week, as discovered through The Pipeline, and that was the sheer cut-out pantyhose designed by American Apparel.  Check out their “Coming Soon” section and you’ll see all the surprises they have in store for us!  I particularly like these pantyhose as they appear so liberating.  That’s right, let them hang out.

In Chloe I TRUST

May 20, 2009

From Elle June 2009

Chloe Sevigny is one of the coolest girls on the planet.  From Sassy to Big Love, Chloe’s style is a look that is championed by the creative and booed by the masses.  Chloe’s looks in Elle are totally inspiring me right now.

Don’t forget to pre- order your Chloe Sevigny “Buckle Boots” from Opening Ceremony!

More photos after the break.

This is the best song about cotton I’ve ever heard.

About EVA

April 17, 2009

I have got a hunch about Eva Mendes and it is that she is secretly cool.  Ever since I posted her Vogue Italia photo spread [ shot by Steven Meisel] I cannot stop wondering about how she hasn’t been given the opportunity to do something interesting in Hollywood.  I have read enough cultural studies texts to know that Cubanas/Latinas are rarely given the chance in media perform outside of the  “spicy vixen” or maid stereotype.  Eva even mentions in her Lula interview that she doesn’t get many scripts with interesting female characters.  Isn’t it time to start making better films?

This is why I am totally rooting for Eva!  If my favorite magazine in the world says “She’s a Lula Girl at heart” then I know my suspicions were legit.  Simply looking at these photos makes me love her even more.  How could you not?

“I try to buy intelligently now. Don’t get me wrong, I love high fashion, but it’s expensive. As long as I’ve been in fashion, and as long as it has supported me, I see how extreme and extravagant it can be, and I think we’ve hit a point where everything is just too overpriced.” – Amber Valletta via Fashion Week Daily

Funny Girl

March 25, 2009

My favorite quality in any person is their sense of humor.  If you can make me laugh we’re friends for life.  Anna Faris is one of those people who can make me pee my pants laughing.  She makes some of the worst movies but she always manages to make me chortle.  I’ll excuse her bad roles as I am well aware there are very few decent roles written for women in Hollywood and she’s not an “A-lister” yet.

Thank you Elle magazine for recognizing how awesome Anna Faris.  See her beautiful shots after the break.

Young & Unstoppable

March 22, 2009

Zoe: “Dude, I’m bringing back the boa.”
Olivia: “I’m bringing back the clog.”
Zoe: “Together we’ll be unstoppable.”

Vogue magazine has printed its yearly “shape issue” and has featured two of my favorite indie girls as their “SHORT” body type.  I have loved both these girls in films and in the pages of magazines but I had no idea they were best friends!  This makes them even cooler in my book.  Olivia Thirlby absolutely charmed me as a slacker in The Wackness and Zoe Kravitz simply has amazing style.  I shouldn’t be surprised at their b.f.f status.  They’re both young, uniquely beautiful, stylish, and cool without trying …. and apparently both short.  They measure at 5’3″ and considering that’s what my height chart says, I think it is time they invite me to go vintage shopping with them in NYC.

P.S. Did you know Marisa Tomei is Zoe’s godmother?

I Love Rashida

March 12, 2009

Don’t you love it when you think someone is cool and then you find out they are a Harvard grad and used to work at Barneys?  I love amazing surprises like that.  The Harvard Grad and Barneys Girl (she revealed this on Martha) I am talking about is Rashida Jones.  I have always thought Rashida was so cute and hilarious – though I don’t watch The Office – and I was excited to see her on The Martha Stewart Show being absolutely amazing.  Rashida came on to make a rhubarb tart and in Martha fashion, hilarity ensued.  The Martha Stewart Show is one of my favorite programs which I record on my dvr every day.  Celebrities are out of their comfort zone on Martha and it is so much fun to see how they respond to crafts, cooking and baking.

Back to Rashida.  Besides being gorgeous, did I mention she’s a Harvard grad? Oh, I did.  I’ve always liked her because intelligent, funny, and stylish women are always tops with the Fashion Intel.  One of my other favorite things I learned on her wiki page is that “She is also a longtime family friend of Nicole Richie and British fashion designer Stella McCartney.”  Enough said.

To watch Rashida make a rhubarb tart, watch her Martha video here.  If you want even more, go see I Love You, Man with me next weekend.  Support interracial love!

P.S. As you can see from the clip, Rashida is a short nails kind of girl!  Who’s with me on that?

First Look at Grey Gardens

March 6, 2009

Here is a first look at HBO’s new film Grey Gardens, starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.  I have expressed my doubts about the making of Grey Gardens as I thought the Maysles film was too incredible to even try to emulate.  My staunch opinion has not changed but I would like to confess that the costumes and cinematography on this production look amazing.  Something that has also eased my pain is that the film will be aired on HBO rather than being released in the theaters.  The original and only Grey Gardens is incredibly special to me and I know many of you, so I am sure you understand my fears of exploitation and the thought of ruining something so beautiful.

Dear Emma…

March 5, 2009

I’d like to congratulate you on your acceptance to YALE.  You are one of the most popular girls on the Fashion Intel and I was absolutely thrilled to see your great news on the E! ticker tonight.  Oh, you were also accepted into Cambridge?  My friend Sergie graduated from that fine establishment and though I know you would succeed with flying colors at good ol’ Cam-b, I think you should move to America and be my best friend.  After all, Blair Waldorf won’t be attending, so a slot has opened up in my group of friends.

What’s Brewing

February 27, 2009

I haven’t read in such a long time, but I am glad that I did today!  They have Rachel Antonoff’s entire Fall 09 lookbook up on their site and the photos feature Alia Shawkat, Julia Frakes, and Sarah Sophie looking absolutely lovely.  Such sweetness & witchery!

This photo of Alia Shawkat is exactly what the Fashion Intel loves and to be honest, I could probably wear that look every day!  Hat included. I had to post this look because not only is the dress rad, but my long-time boyfriend has a celebrity crush of Arrested Development’s Maybe. [fyi there’s more Alia on Rachel’s official site] Wink.

So can see more images over on

SJP Loves her Library

February 25, 2009

Because of my move it has taken me awhile to receive all of my magazine subscriptions.  When I got the new Harper’s Bazaar I was so excited to see Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover.  What has always impressed me about this woman is her vast vocabulary, confidence, and ability to make any belt look amazing.  If you’ve ever seen her in an interview you know how intelligent she is and that is a rarity among many celebrities.  How apropos to give Sarah Jessica Parker the look of Diana Vreeland as both women have exhibited distinct styles and personalities.

To no surprise Sarah Jessica Parker has impressed me again, this time with her homage to Vreeland’s “Why don’t you…”  She suggests you use your local library and start writing good old-fashion letters again.  Well SJP, I do both and won’t ever stop.  Read the rest of her list and try to integrate some of her why don’t yous into your life.  Trust me when I say you’ll love it.  Visit your local library!

Lanvin Love

February 23, 2009

Every website today is going to tell you who looked the best at the Oscar’s last night.  You’ll hear snarky comments about Penelope Cruz looking like a bride or Anne Hathaway needing a tan.  At least those young women have personalities.  While I was looking through images of my favorite looks I came across some awful remarks regarding Tilda Swinton over on The Los Angeles Times website.  I’d rather not post them, but you can read them here along with other lame Oscar fashion “critiques.”  See if you can spot the misogyny!

Tilda, you are my girl.  Especially in Lanvin!  I know no one else is going to say it, at least not on a major website like People or the LAT, but this woman is amazing and her style is unique.  If I wanted to party, I’d give Tilda a call.  She lives with two men afterall – this lady knows how to get down.
