May I suggest you dress up as Chloe Sevigny the cat for Halloween?  Even better is to have a friend dress as Terry Richardson to take your photo.  Just some costume suggestions from Fashion Intel. xoxo

I was with some friends at a gallery over the weekend and we got to talking about Mackenzie Phillips’ new book. Her story mentions how her father wanted them to runaway and raise her sister Bijou Phillips as their own. I’ve always been fascinated with Bijou as I thought she was beautiful, out of control, and had a mind of her own. Her acting and music left something to be desired but nonetheless as someone who is addicted to SVU so was I fascinated with why she was the way she was. A lot of questions were answered this weekend when someone linked an old interview with Bijou in the Jezebel reader comments.

I was quite young when the infamous Calvin Klein ads were shown on TV, but I knew even then how weird they made me feel. I understand now what the aim of the ads were, but I’m not going to make excuses and call it “edgy.” Bijou was 14 when she starred in one of the ads and her comments really struck me. Does any one else find it disturbing that children work in the fashion industry unsupervised?

BIJOU: Yeah, and he was asking these questions like [in a creepy voice], “What do you like about your Calvin Kleins? How do they make you feel?”…
BIJOU: And then he goes, “What would it take to get your jeans off?” I mean, I was like fourteen. I’d been flown in from boarding school to do this. So I said, “If I had to take a shower? If I had to go to the bathroom?”
BRUCE: [laughing] What would it take to get your jeans off! How sweet! But it felt creepy, right?
BIJOU: It felt dirty and wrong.

BOY + Marisa + Polaroids = PERFECTION

Don’t you love it when I designers/artists take the things you love and make something even more amazing out of it?  Like BOY by Band of Outsiders + Marisa Tomei + the Chateau Marmont + Polaroid films.

I totally fell for Marisa Tomei when she played Maggie on A Different World – best college show ever.  Then she made Untamed Heart and I knew I’d be a fan for eternity.  Even when she gave my boyfriend googly eyes at Joan’s on Third I was totally thrilled because that meant we had similar taste in men and gourmet food!

Winona Ryder is one of my favorite actresses, ever.  To my delight while at a newsstand in Santa Monica this weekend I saw the latest issue of Elle UK with Winona on the cover.  Since I promised myself I’d cut down on my magazine buying (yeah, right) I passed on picking this one up and just told myself to find some magazine scans when I got home.  To my surprise there were no good images online, but I am still thankful for these water damaged ones from website Winona Forever.

Don’t you miss the intelligent brunette with effortless style!!?!?!?!  Aren’t you ready for a Winona comeback?  I know I sure am.

In Chloe I TRUST

From Elle June 2009

Chloe Sevigny is one of the coolest girls on the planet.  From Sassy to Big Love, Chloe’s style is a look that is championed by the creative and booed by the masses.  Chloe’s looks in Elle are totally inspiring me right now.

Don’t forget to pre- order your Chloe Sevigny “Buckle Boots” from Opening Ceremony!

“I try to buy intelligently now. Don’t get me wrong, I love high fashion, but it’s expensive. As long as I’ve been in fashion, and as long as it has supported me, I see how extreme and extravagant it can be, and I think we’ve hit a point where everything is just too overpriced.” – Amber Valletta via Fashion Week Daily

Not a Regular Girl

December 29, 2008

Chloë says she was never a “normal girl”, if any of us truly knows what that is.  That’s why I have always loved her though.  Her movie choices have always felt as if they were considered, her fashion choices always daring, and her attitude has always come off as bohemian and punk rock.

When I was perusing the magazine rack for the January issue of Domino [my subscription hasn’t kicked in] my dear boyfriend pointed out Chloë Sevigny on the new issue of Missbehave Magazine.  They are on issue 10, but this is the first time it has ever come home with me.  If Chloë is on the cover, they obviously have some level of taste so I cannot wait to see what else the magazine has inside.

Chloë will undoubtedly be on the Fashion Intel’s radar until I die.  I once saw Chloë at the Sunset Junction and she looked so relaxed and leggy.  She optimizes the kind of girl you’d want as a best friend.  I don’t think you’d disagree!

I miss those 90s Witches!

October 31, 2008

Last night was my lucky night.  All week I had been chanting in my head “please let The Craft be on” over and over.  Yes, that is one of the things that had been on my mind all week if you can believe it.  HBO must have been tuning into my brain waves or showing it because of Halloween [duh] and I nestled in to watch one of my favorite childhood films.

I sure miss those actresses of the 90s.  They appeared genuine, healthy and like they shopped at Judy’s!  Add 90s music like Veruca Salt and Portishead and you have a perfect film.  I know The Craft had its flaws, but it has a special place in my heart next to Clueless and Jawbreaker.  Watching it again last night made me want to start my very own fashionable coven, so if you’re interested, shoot me an email.
