Can you believe we watched Miss Universe for you dear readers? I am glad we did, because we always love a fallen beauty queen. We chose this clip because it even has an added gasp from the network broadcasting it.
It is no secret that the Fashion INTEL loves Anne Hathaway. Spotted last week: What we love even more is when a girl can dump a guy before he goes to jail, fly to Rome, and look radiant in white. One of the only actresses still keeping it classy. We have almost forgotten HAVOC.
If you are anything like me, you still love many of things you did as a teenager. Sometimes many of those things such as Dr. Martens’ creepers or Screeching Weasel reveal themselves as ridiculous with a little age, but if you are lucky you can still count on some of your former interests to remain in tact.
The Gossip is one of those groups that no matter how huge they become (in the UK, wake up America!), they will always remain awesomely hip. Not simply because they have a fearless and sexy lead singer, but they make fun music. I’ve loved them since I was 18, and years later my adoration has only grown.
I was enthralled to see Beth Ditto in the music issue of NYLON magazine, no less rocking the Christian Louboutin Roditas in yellow. She’s been in Paris Vogue, Vogue, Pop magazine, and it is great that her style is still being recognized, as she is a gem among plastics. I wasn’t a fan of these particular Louboutins, as they looked too similar to something found in a Spearmint Rhino dressing room, but Ditto is making them look hot. For $500 they can be yours too.
Not familiar with the sounds of the GOSSIP? Listen to our online mixtape, courtesy of muxtape. More photos after the break
Richard Chai for Target has been all over the web this week, and it didn’t take me long to pick which items I know will be coming home with me. Can you say Purple People Eater? Purple is such a difficult color and I respect those who can pull it off. Sometimes I think if Vera Wang can do it, then so can I! But then again, Vera is always draped in diamonds and furs, and my closet is certainly not packed with those accouterments.
My definite picks are Long Cardigan in Indigo ($39.99), Colorblock Tie Dress in Gray/Purple ($44.99) and the Cotton Canvas Trench Coat in Plaid Print ($44.99). You can check the rest of the collection here, and read a bio on Chai if you already didn’t have him in your designers to love file.
We love links on our wrist, and online. Here is what we’re reading today:
Free clothes for Trivia? Jezebel promises free H&M duds to their readers. [Jezebel]
Did fashionista see our post on the gladiator doppelgänger? We’re guessing, as they rejected our innocent message board comment. We are flattered. [fashionista]
Andre Leon Talley was denied opening up a Macy*s credit card. Credit issues. Macy*s? Say it isn’t so. Favorite line - “Talley’s got some credit issues — just like the average fashionista.” [the cut]
Hello Kitty is opening a Sanrio in The Little Tokyo Mall - right down the street from me! Let all downtowners rejoice. [Racked LA]
Grazie to Women Management for sending over some lovely scans of Jourdan Dunn, straight from their Milano office and soon on news stands. To read more, check out their blog here.
We have seen them on Childhood Flames, Fashion Toast, The Sartorialist and they’re even sitting in my closet - the black “heech” gladiators from Nine West. If you haven’t seen them or don’t already own them, I suggest these shoes if you are looking for a gladiator with some height. Even better is that they are on sale ($69.99) on their site.
Or should you opt for their fashion doppelgänger? I was perusing the Forever 21 shoe page, and came across the Blanea Wedge. Tres intéressant, non? At $24.80 and almost an identical, they could be the cure for your gladiator blues. The catch is they only come in brown.
SO, now it is up to you - another in brown, one of each, or none at all because you only think gladiators are a trend. If you ask me, you can never have too many gladiators; I’ve been collecting since 2002.
I have shown some love for jeweler-du-jour Philip Crangi in the past here on Fashion INTEL, and my heart melted knowing that I would be thousands of miles away from his in-store appearance at Barneys New York (Madison Avenue) this week. To all my NYC fashionistas and jewelry aficionados, please stop by 7.09 from 6-8pm and tell dear Phil how handsome I think he is!
Me aside, simply stop by to have your monogram personally stamped on a bangle by Crangi himself. Read more about this special event over on Simon Doonan’s Barneys Babble.
As teens, music was as important to us as fashion. These days we might not be frequenting The Smell, The Troubador, or El Rey as much as we would like, but we still love listening to past favorites and finding new gems.
With that in mind, we present to you Fashion INTEL’S mixed tape. We’re the kind of music snobs that don’t find “mixed tape” appropriate for labeling CDs or mp3s, but in this case we’ll excuse the muxtape, because we had so much fun making it!
Click the tape and see our fashion playlist for the month of JULY. We’d love to listen to yours, so comment with your playlists please!
If you are like us, you cannot live without fashion magazines. But we are a blog, and we don’t want to constantly litter our pages with spreads that you probably have already seen. We are much more interested in glossies from abroad or alluring photography; we will leave the glory of Agyness Deyn to the rest of them. With that in mind, we have found your number one source for online magazine fashion scans - FASHIONATION. They’re calling themselves “…an alternative fashion universe where fashionistas, photographers and creatives can get their weekly fix of the best fashion editorial from around world.” So far so good. Do yourself a favor, and subscribe now.
